My Record

  • Kept my promise on term limits. I pledged to serve no more than two terms as County Commissioner, and after eight years, I kept that promise.

  • I NEVER voted to raise your property taxes, but to reduce them.

  • Helped facilitate and balance county budgets.

  • I helped save the Montesano Senior Center from closure by securing a variance that allowed meals to continue being served at city hall in Montesano while a permanent location was found.

  • As a member of the Olympic Region Clean Air Agency I proposed (and it passed) waiving fees for property owners in counties declared disaster areas because of flooding.

  • I created the county's media session. The session was designed to be held following the Commissioner meetings where citizens and members of the media could ask questions and get answers directly from the commission.

  • I proposed and passed an Ordinance that allows property owners the ability to build accessory buildings up to 800 square feet without an inspection, permit or fee.

  • I proposed an expedited permitting process for agricultural outbuildings up to 1,500 square feet.

  • Stood against eminent domain by voting against taking private property for a flood control project.

  • I spearheaded the repeal of the county admission tax successfully.

  • I voted against a garbage & recycling contract that bound the county for 20 years to inflationary taxes without Commissioner approval.

  • Fought back against unfunded state mandates by sending the State of Washington a bill for costs it imposed on the county without providing the funding to pay for them.

  • Took a difficult vote (at the time) to protect outlying communities by voting to keep the Public Hospital District limited to a smaller area rather than expanding its boundaries to include the rest of the entire county (from Ocean Shores and Westport to Montesano).  Which proved to be the right decision.

  • I created a hiring committee to squash nepotism and favoritism in the county hiring process which made the process more accountable and impartial.

  • Brought county government directly to the people by holding town hall meetings in every Commissioner district.

  • Defended hunters, fishermen, and outdoor recreationists for public access of natural resources and recreational opportunities.

  • I always fought for balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility throughout my eight years in office.

  • I turned principles into policy by proposing and passing numerous legislative and administrative reforms designed to improve accountability and efficiency.

  • I served on the following local, regional, and federal committees:

    • Disability Board (LEOFF I)

    • County Hiring Committee

    • Chehalis Basin Partnership

    • US Forest Service RAC

    • Veterans Advisory Board
